It's the eternal debate at every car show: Mustang or Camaro? If you're buying a project to restore, the more practical question is which one will be easier — and cheaper — to bring back to life. Here's an honest comparison.
Purchase price
First-generation Camaros, especially 1969 models, command a premium over comparable Mustangs. There were simply more Mustangs built, so the supply of project cars is larger and entry prices are often lower.

Parts availability
Both cars enjoy outstanding reproduction parts support, but the Mustang aftermarket is the largest of any classic car. Nearly every panel, trim piece, and mechanical component is reproduced, often by multiple suppliers competing on price.

Small-block Ford and small-block Chevy engines are two of the most supported powerplants ever made. Rebuild kits, carburetors, and cooling parts are inexpensive for both. Chevy's small-block has a slight edge in sheer aftermarket performance variety.

Resale value
When the dust settles, a well-restored 1969 Camaro SS typically appreciates faster than an equivalent Mustang, thanks to lower production numbers.

The verdict
If your goal is the lowest-cost restoration, the Mustang usually wins on entry price and parts cost. If you're chasing maximum resale value, a first-gen Camaro often pulls ahead. Either way, you're restoring an icon.
